About United States
Skiing in the United States
American skiing is defined by two things: space and snow quality. Colorado's resorts — Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Steamboat — sit above 2,500m and receive dry, light powder that European skiers can only dream of. Utah claims the "Greatest Snow on Earth" and backs it up: Park City and the Cottonwood Canyon resorts (Alta, Snowbird) receive over 12 metres of annual snowfall.
Vail is the largest single ski mountain in the US with over 2,000 hectares of terrain, including the famous Back Bowls — wide-open powder fields with no European equivalent. Aspen combines four mountains on one pass with a genuine town that has world-class dining, art galleries, and cultural events year-round.
Luxury accommodation in the US leans toward slope-side lodges and large private homes rather than the traditional chalet format. Hot tubs are essentially mandatory, home theatres and games rooms are common, and many properties sit directly on or within walking distance of the slopes.

When to visit the United States
US ski season runs from late November to mid-April, with some resorts (Arapahoe Basin, Mammoth) staying open into June. Colorado's best powder days come in January and February. Utah resorts benefit from reliable lake-effect snow throughout the season. MLK weekend (January), Presidents' Day (February), and spring break (March) are the busiest periods. January and early April offer the best combination of snow quality and availability.

Common Questions
United States FAQ
What is the best luxury ski resort in the United States?
Aspen is the premier luxury ski destination, offering four mountains, a vibrant town, and the highest concentration of luxury properties. Vail is the largest single-mountain resort with extensive terrain. Park City (Utah) combines two resorts on one pass with easy access from Salt Lake City. Telluride and Jackson Hole attract those seeking a more remote, rugged experience.
Why is Colorado powder different from European snow?
Colorado sits at high altitude and far from any ocean, which means the snow falls extremely dry and light — often just 4–6% water content, compared to 8–12% in the Alps. This "champagne powder" makes for effortless deep-snow skiing and stays untracked longer because it doesn't consolidate as quickly.
How do you get to US ski resorts from Europe?
Denver is the main gateway for Colorado resorts (Vail 2 hours, Aspen 4 hours). Eagle-Vail airport is 30 minutes from Vail. Salt Lake City is 45 minutes from Park City and the Cottonwood Canyon resorts. Direct flights from London serve Denver year-round, with seasonal routes to Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole.
Is the Epic Pass or Ikon Pass worth it?
Both multi-resort passes offer exceptional value if you ski 5+ days. The Epic Pass covers Vail, Beaver Creek, Park City, Whistler, and European partner resorts. The Ikon Pass covers Aspen, Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Chamonix, and others. Choose based on which resorts you plan to visit. Both sell out or increase in price as the season approaches.
